Support local nonprofits

To the Editor:

The Mental Health Resource League recently issued over $200,000 in grants to 20 McHenry County nonprofit agencies.

This event should be heralded as the Emmy Awards for nonprofits. One by one, they came forward to not only accept the grant money, but to tell the stories of the individuals whose lives have been improved by the services provided by each of these organizations.

Birth to child, teens to adults, individuals to families, health care to day care, shelter to therapy, clothing to housing, these agencies provide assistance to those in need. The numbers are staggering yet there still are so many more that need their help.

These nonprofit centers would not exist without the volunteer efforts of so many and the generosity of donors – individual and corporate. MHRL is able to offer these grants through contributions as well as monies made at Fair Diddley on The Square in Woodstock (May 18) and Fall Diddley and Boone County Fairgrounds (Oct. 11-12).

As a community, we all need to volunteer more of our time and contribute more of our money to support the efforts put forth by these worthy organizations so that more of our citizens of McHenry County can find assistance when they need it.

Please support the nonprofits of your choice this year.
