High winds creating difficult travel conditions

McHenry County is in a wind advisory until 3 p.m. this afternoon.

Sustained winds of 30 to 39 MPH are likely, with gusts up to 45 MPH, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds this strong can cause minor property damage and can make driving difficult, the weather service warned.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office has responded to several traffic accidents Friday morning, mainly on the western half of the county, due to the high winds, icy patches, and drifting snow.

Motorists are encouraged to keep their headlights on and use caution on the roads.
