County Board District 3 (Republican): Gottemoller, Gonsiorek

Published: Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014 5:30 a.m. CST

Voters in McHenry County Board District 3 in this primary have four candidates to choose from for two spots on the Republican ticket.

Incumbent Joe Gottemoller is being challenged by former Nunda Township Highway Commissioner Donald Kopsell, School District 47 Board Member Nancy Gonsiorek and lawyer and former McHenry County Assistant State’s Attorney Sarah Jansen.

District 3 includes Crystal Lake, Nunda Township, a southern portion of McHenry Township and a northern portion of Algonquin Township.

Gottemoller’s experience as a lawyer for developers has been particularly useful for McHenry County residents in the tedious but important board task of developing a new zoning ordinance for the county. Gottemoller is a pragmatic and intelligent leader who would continue to have a strong and effective voice on the County Board.

Gonsiorek, an experienced CPA, has demonstrated a strong sense of fiscal responsibility during her two terms on the School District 47 Board, where she also served as chair of the board’s finance committee. Her professional and board experience overseeing an $85 million budget would be of great benefit as a new County Board member.

We endorse Gottemoller and Gonsiorek for District 3.
