Forecasters warn of dangerous cold in Illinois

LINCOLN – Illinois is bracing for the next round of bitter temperatures.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for much of central and northern Illinois, cautioning winds could make it feel like it's 30 below zero.

The particularly cold temperatures are expected to arrive late Tuesday and linger into Wednesday. Without the wind chill, the air temperature in some areas could fall to or below zero.

This winter has already racked up an unusual number of below-zero days.

Forecasters at the weather agency's Romeoville office say there have been 32 below-zero days so far this season in Rockford. In Chicago, there have been 22 below-zero days. That's tied for fourth with the winter of 1981-82.
