McHenry man injured in snowmobiling accident

ATLANTIC MINE, Mich. – A McHenry man was injured when his snowmobile went airborne and hit a tree Monday morning in upper Michigan.

Daniel A. Schmidt, 47, of McHenry was traveling south on North Freda Trail when the snowmobile he was driving hit a snowdrift, making him go airborne and then hit a tree, according to a news release from the Houghton County Sheriff's Office.

Schmidt was taken to Portage Health System where he remained Monday night.

The accident remains under investigation, the release said.
