Voters won’t have an easy choice when deciding how to cast their ballot in the race for the Republican nomination for McHenry County Clerk.
Incumbent Katherine Schultz is not seeking re-election, so County Board members Mary McClellan and Nick Provenzano are vying for the nomination.
McClellan, a Cook County assistant state’s attorney, has plenty of experience with the election process. She plans to make information more easily accessible to residents through the clerk’s website and vows to increase transparency from the office.
Provenzano is an advocate for modernizing the office and believes that, if the county pays for new technology, it will result in a long-term cost savings through efficiencies.
McClellan, on the other hand, believes that the cost of getting election results earlier on the night of the election might not be worth the price it will cost residents.
Both believe overhauling the office’s website, including a better archive of information, will result in better transparency and ultimately will save taxpayers money and unnecessary paperwork.
McClellan has a deep knowledge of how the office runs and seems to be a financially responsible candidate who will run the office in a professional way, much like her predecessor. We endorse McClellan.
