Two Marengo businesses cited for selling tobacco to a minor

MARENGO – Two Marengo businesses were cited Tuesday for selling cigarettes to a minor during a Marengo Police Department compliance check.

Marengo Convenient Mart, 20001 Telegraph St., and Creekside Marathon, 566 N. State St., were both cited under a local ordinance for Unlawful Sale of Tobacco Product to a Minor, which carries a fine of up to $250, according to a news release from the Marengo Police Department.

They were the only two of 13 tobacco retailers to fail the compliance check.

The checks are conducted through a grant from the Illinois Liquor Commission’s “Kid’s Can’t Buy ’Em Here” program.
