$9,000 of cocaine recovered near McHenry traffic stop

MCHENRY – Sheriff's police say they recovered about $9,000 worth of cocaine during a Tuesday traffic stop near the intersection of Route 120 and Riverside Drive.

McHenry County Sheriff's police said and intelligence led policing unit observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation at 5:15 p.m. before stopping it. A sheriff's K-9 unit indicated the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, police said.

Deputies searched the vehicle and found 8 ounces of cocaine in the backseat.

Jose A. Galvan, 26, of Elk Grove Village and Juan C. Martinez, 23, of Rosemont, were each charged with a Class X felony of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and a Class 1 felony of unlawful possession of a controlled substance. The most serious charge carries a potential prison term of up to 30 years.

Bond was set for both men at $100,000. They are scheduled to appear in court Friday morning.

Sheriff's police said they encourage citizens to report illegal activity to local police or the McHenry County Sheriff's Office at (815) 338-2144 or anonymously to the McHenry County Crimestoppers Tip Line at (800) 762-7867.
