Central Ill. in crosshairs of another winter blitz
ST. LOUIS — Portions of winter-weary Illinois are bracing for another potent storm that could dump as much as 10 inches of snow on the state's midsection. Icy conditions are expected farther south.
National Weather Service meteorologist Chris Geelhart says the storm that's expected to sweep across the Midwest may leave as much as 6 to 10 inches of snow in central Illinois between Saturday evening and Sunday night.
Forecasters expect only a couple inches of snow in southern Illinois this weekend. But the larger concern there is the prospect of as much as a half inch of ice and freezing rain.
Closer to Chicago, the weather service says light snowfall Friday night and into early Saturday could give way to 2 to 4 inches of accumulation Saturday afternoon.
