MCCD to host prairie burn program

Published: Tuesday, March 4, 2014 11:04 a.m. CDT

RINGWOOD – A prescribed prairie and savanna burn will light up the night sky at Glacial Park.

The McHenry County Conservation District is hosting a free program for those 8 and up about the benefits of fire on ecosystems followed by a prescribed burn.

Because the burn requires specific conditions, the date of the program will be announced 24 hours ahead of time, likely sometime between mid-March and mid-April, and will run 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lost Valley Visitor Center in Glacial Park, Route 31 and Harts Road.

To get on the contact list, call 815-479-5779 or email education@mccdistrict.org with the names and ages of the people attending. The number of attendees is capped at 100.
