McHenry police looking to return lost, stolen property

McHENRY – Bicycles, lawn ornaments, electronics and jewelry frequently end up at the McHenry police department.

The items are either turned in as found property or recovered during vehicle, residential and commercial burglaries, but the McHenry police department often has trouble finding the items' owners and the property is eventually auctioned off.

To ensure that items make their way back to their owners, the McHenry police department is reminding visitors and residents to notify the police when property is lost or stolen and to follow-up afterward.

To file a police report, go to the police department at the McHenry Municipal Center, 333. S. Green St., or call 815-363-2200. The department recommends having as much information as possible, including make, model, serial number, identifying marks and purchase receipts.

To check in with the property and evidence division, call 815-363-2599.
