Chicago man gets 75 years for dice game slaying

CHICAGO – A Chicago man has been sentenced to 75 years in prison for shooting another man in the back of the head as they were leaving a dice game in 2011.

Thirty-four-year-old Kenyahta Beck was convicted of first-degree murder in the slaying of 19-year-old Jonathan Banks in the West Side neighborhood of Lawndale. He was sentenced Wednesday at the Leighton Criminal Courts Building in Chicago.

Witnesses identified Beck as the shooter, and authorities recovered surveillance video footage that captured the crime.

According to prosecutors, Beck held the door open as he and a group of men were leaving a dice game. They say Beck then stepped forward and fired a single shot into the back of the victim's head before fleeing on foot.
