McHenry library offers demos of free language program

McHENRY – The McHenry Public Library is highlighting a free foreign language program it offers as part of National Foreign Languages Week.

Library staff at the Questions Desk will be offering brief demos of the online program, called Mango Languages, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 11.

Anyone who sits through a demo can enter a drawing to win a Mango T-shirt, tote bag or mouse pad.

The program offers tutorials for more than 60 languages, including Arabic and Yiddish, and offers English courses for non-native English speakers in 17 languages, including Spanish, Portuguese and Polish .

To use Mango, McHenry Public Library patrons need an active library card, access to the Internet and either headphones or speakers. The program can be found through the library's website – www.mchenrylibrary.org – by clicking on “Find It/Library Databases/Languages.”

Mango also has free apps for iPhones, iPads and Android phones, which library patrons can access by setting up a free account with Mango on their computer.

For more information on Mango Languages Day, stop by at 809 N. Front St., visit www.mchenrylibrary.org or call the library at 815-385-0036.
