ALGONQUIN – Steve Gertz’s work commutes will be cut drastically in the 2014-15 school year.

Gertz, currently the Grayslake Central athletic director, was approved as assistant principal/athletic director at Dundee-Crown in the District 300 school board meeting Monday night at Westfield Elementary School.

Gertz, who previously worked as AD at Streamwood and Burlington Central, lives with his family in the Gilberts area. Efforts to reach Gertz by phone late Monday night were unsuccessful.

Gertz was part of the human resources report that was approved before the meeting officially started. He earned his Bachelor or Arts degree at Western Illinois University and his Masters at Northern Illinois University.

Hampshire athletic director David Hicks said he sent his recommendation for the new head football caoch to the D-300 office last week, although no action was taken in the meeting Monday for that position.

“We don’t have anything at this point,” said Eberto Mora, D-300 human resources director. “We’re working through the process.”

Dan Cavanaugh is retiring after 33 years at Hampshire, 25 as the head football coach. Cavanaugh’s teams were 121-122 and won the 1996 Class 2A state championship.
