UNION – High school seniors nearing graduation have until April 1 to apply for a $1,000 scholarship from the McHenry County Historical Society.

Named after former society Administrator Nancy Fike, the first-time scholarship is awarded to a McHenry County graduating senior who plans to study education, history or the social sciences.

Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, two recommendation letters, and show proof of community service. They also are required to write a 500-word essay about the importance of preserving historical buildings in McHenry County.

Applications for the scholarship are available online. Visit or call the society at (815) 923-2267 for more information.
