Rauner overload

To the Editor:

Bruce Rauner’s TV ads have edged out the top two obnoxious commercials on my list : WeatherTech car mats and AT&T U-verse (place your TV anywhere in or around the house).

Remember the electrifying AT&T U-verse commercial showing a live TV near the edge of a swimming pool while children frolicked in the water?

For many weeks based upon the frequency of his ads and the dearth of anyone else’s, it seemed Rauner was the only Republican candidate running against Gov. Pat Quinn.

Rauner is a ubiquitous TV presence – well-known and recognizable – maybe too much so. And I wonder if that hurts him.

William Hazlitt, the English critic, said, “Though familiarity may not breed contempt, it takes off the edge of admiration.”
