Wonder Lake man arrested after threatening relative with knife

A Wonder Lake man was arrested after threatening his elderly relative with a knife.

Eric J. Wegner, 34, was charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly came at the victim in a threatening manner with a knife in his hand after the two been arguing, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office declined to identify the victim, who was described as a male older than 60.

Around 12:40 a.m. on March 10, McHenry County Sheriff's officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of Michael Street in Wonder Lake. Deputies learned that after the altercation, the victim was able to separate himself and exit the house through the garage.

Deputies located Wegner a short distance from the residence. He was taken into custody without incident.

Wenger was charged with aggravated assault on a victim over 60, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, both of which are Class A misdemeanors. He was held at McHenry County Jail on a $1,500 bond.

He is scheduled to appear in court April 8.
