Woodstock music programs earn state honors

WOODSTOCK – Woodstock high school music programs had strong showings at state competition recently.

The IHSA Music Solo & Ensemble Contest was held throughout the state on March 8. Teams and individuals from Woodstock came home from the event with the following honors:

• Team placements: Woodstock High School combined band and choral program – 3rd place; Woodstock High School choir – 2nd place; Woodstock High School band – 8th place; Woodstock North High School combined band and choral program – 13th place; Woodstock North High School band – 15th place; Woodstock North High School choir – 12th place.

• The schools received 15 perfect scores.

From Woodstock North: Bryce Kille, piano; Bella Biwer, piano; Gabriella Fikert, clarinet; McKenzie Dice, clarinet; Madeleine Emmons, Olivia Vepley, Theresa Cruz, Leah Warner, Molly Schwieger, Emilee Campisi, Peyton Wood and Madisyn Selof, flute choir.

From Woodstock: Natalie Zoia and Erica Christmas, flute duet; Alex Riak, vocal solo; Evan Berg, Jonathan Zoia, Samuel Peiffer and Christian Cross, vocal quartet; Caleb McKenzie, vocal solo; Elizabeth Acosta, Sarah Baier, Evan Berg, Nora Brown, Daniel Colangelo, Christian Cross, Erica Finke, Shannon Freeman, Samuel Geggie, Bridget Kritz, Caleb McKenzie, Dillan Nerland, Samuel Peiffer, Alex Riak, Nathan Sites, Samuel Sites, Maggie Sturm, Casey Wilk, Jonathan Zoia, and Natalie Zoia, chamber choir; Evan Berg, vocal solo; Elizabeth Acosta, Natalie Zoia, Shannon Freeman and Sarah Baier, vocal quartet; Natalie Zoia, flute solo; Samantha Jones, trumpet solo; Zachary Stone, vocal solo.

• The schools received nine "best of day" awards, for the best performance of the day in a given room of the contest site.

From Woodstock: Samantha Jones, trumpet; Jonathan Zoia, alto saxophone; Natalie Zoia, flute; Natalie Zoia and Erica Christmas, flute duet; Evan Berg, tenor soloist, Emma Browne and Annie Kamps, duet; Jonathan Zoia and Alex Riak, duet; Evan Berg, Jonathan Zoia, Samuel Peiffer and Christian Cross, quartet.

From Woodstock North: Gabrielle Fikert, McKenzie Dice, Lian Pankow, Allison Nordvall, Emily Heiress, Maria Cooper, Kelly Read, Jose Gonzalez and Gwen Paulsen, clarinet choir.
