‘Yes’: Nunda waste removal

Published: Friday, March 14, 2014 5:30 a.m. CDT

To the Editor:

Nunda Township has a binding referendum question on the March 18 ballot.

Voter approval would allow Nunda Township to contract for consolidated solid waste removal services within unincorporated areas of Nunda.

Our goal is to contract for these services at a significant savings. We plan to give residents more choices than they currently have, including provisions for senior discounts, landscape waste pickup, multiple leaf collections, unlimited recycling and options for large-item disposal. Payments would be made directly to the waste removal company.

Benefits of consolidated waste removal include less truck traffic in our neighborhoods, a significant reduction of damage to our streets and reduced leaf burning throughout the area.

The McHenry County Department of Health has established similar programs within several communities with great success and has offered assistance to Nunda Township in the implementation of this program. Vote “yes” to allow Nunda to save money and improve our community.
