Monica Maschak - mmaschak@shawmedia.com Sycamore's Ben Niemann hustles for the ball in the fourth quarter of the class 3A sectional semifinal game against Marian Central at Hampshire High School on Wednesday, March 12, 2014. Sycamore won, 58-48.

HAMPSHIRE – Marian Central could not find the blazing shooting touch it had Friday night in the Class 3A Woodstock Regional win against Marengo.

The Hurricanes would have even settled for lukewarm.

Marian, which hit 12 3-pointers Friday, made only one Wednesday and was ousted from the Hampshire Sectional in a 58-48 semifinal loss. The Spartans (22-7) move on to face Rockford Lutheran at 7 p.m. Friday in the sectional championship.

Sycamore not only defended the 3-point line well, but beat the Hurricanes (18-14) badly on the boards with a 34-23 edge. That statistic was most telling in the first half when the Spartans, who had scored every point inside, led 18-16. Many of their points came on second-chance baskets.

Sophomore guard Adam Pischke led the Hurricanes with 17 points, while junior forward Matt Ricchiuto added 10 points and seven rebounds.

Devin Mottet led Sycamore with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Ben Niemann, who is headed to Iowa to play football, added 17 points and 11 rebounds.
