Don’t mess with Valley Hi

To the Editor:

Three candidates, two seats open on County Board District 1.

Know the candidates’ thinking or plans. David Stieper in the Northwest Herald mentioned privatizing Valley Hi. Why?

The home is home and rehab for 100-plus residents 70 to 90 years old – most or all taxpayers in McHenry County. We, taxpayers, have a well-run Valley Hi. A dedicated operating board. A very well-educated administrator.

The idea of what is now Valley Hi, started in 1884, by a state mandate – poor farm insane asylum. From this beginning, we now have Valley Hi Nursing and Rehab. It’s a lovely building in the county at Hartland and Nelson roads.

Our county’s older citizens aren’t worth our interest in their care.
