Thorsen makes case

To the Editor:

Voters deserve and should demand transparency regarding the fiscal activities of government.

The treasurer’s office is the ideal nucleus for opening the books and enlightening the taxpayer. McHenry County is behind our surrounding Illinois counties in providing that transparency. One look at each of those counties’ treasurer websites dramatically reveals that.

Indeed, the Kane County treasurer has placed the county’s checkbook online for anyone to search. After viewing these surrounding websites and returning to ours, one cannot help but be disappointed.

The McHenry County treasurer’s website has remained stagnant and virtually unchanged for over a decade.

However, McHenry County is one of the most taxed counties in the entire U.S. It does not add up.

We deserve better. McHenry County deserves better. That’s why I am running to be your treasurer. I can and will accomplish fiscal transparency. Not a campaign promise, but fact. Vote Tuesday.
