Cary armed robbery suspect in custody

At 8:14 p.m. Cary Police Officers were dispatched to a hold up alarm at a convenience store at 296 Cary-Algonquin Rd. The clerk explained that the suspect entered the store alone and asked to buy a pack of cigarettes. The suspect then removed a black semi-automatic handgun from his front pocket and demanded money from the cash register, according to a news release.

CARY – A person suspected of robbing a convenience store at 296 Cary-Algonquin Road is in custody, the police department said.

Cordell J. Miller, 25, of the 400 block of Crest Drive, is in custody of the Waukegan Police Department and is anticipated to be charged with at least two counts of armed robbery in Lake County, according to a news release. Further criminal charges are pending in McHenry County.

On Monday, police were called to the 400 block of Crest Drive for a domestic violence incident involving Miller, who fled the scene possibly armed, police said. Waukegan Police later in the evening apprehended Miller, who was a suspect in an armed robbery in Waukegan.

While being questioned, Miller implicated himself in armed robberies in Elgin and Cary as well, police said. The armed robbery in Cary took place on March 6. 

Police did search the house on the 400 block of Crest Drive on Tuesday and found it was unoccupied.

Miller is scheduled for a bond hearing on Wednesday in Lake County.
