GOP group gives Rauner $750K for Ill. governor bid

CHICAGO (AP) — The Republican Governors Association has donated $750,000 to businessman Bruce Rauner's campaign for Illinois governor.

Jon Thompson is communications director for the RGA. He says Wednesday's donation is a sign the group is "all-in" to defeat Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn in November.

Rauner is a wealthy venture capitalist from Winnetka who won the GOP nomination Tuesday in his first run for public office.

Thompson says Rauner is "focused, willing and prepared to do what it takes to bring back Illinois."

Rauner spent more than $14 million on the primary, including more than $6 million of his own money.

Republicans see Quinn as vulnerable because of Illinois' dismal financial situation and high unemployment.

Quinn says he's an advocate for working people who has turned the state around since taking office.
