McHenry County Historical Society seeks baseball players

Published: Wednesday, March 19, 2014 1:19 p.m. CST

UNION – The McHenry County Historical Society is looking for area ballplayers to field its vintage, 1860s "Independants" baseball team.

Interested volunteers would need to commit to at least one practice and play in two Saturday exhibition games in June at Prairie Grove and again in August at Grayslake.

Both games will be played against the Grayslake Athletics, which beat the society's club two times last year. The games will be fashioned after Civil War-era baseball, which features different rules from today's game.

For more information about joining the team, contact society Administrator Kurt Begalka at (815) 923-2267.
