Initial proposals sought for future Obama library

WASHINGTON (AP) — The foundation that will develop President Barack Obama's presidential library is asking sites that want to host the library to submit their initial proposals.

The Barack Obama Foundation is issuing its request for qualifications on Thursday. Interested parties have until June 16 to submit details about proposed sites, such as information about the community and access to transportation. The foundation also wants to know how each group's proposal will fulfill the library's intended principles.

The list of groups that submit requests will be culled. Over the summer, the foundation will notify groups that they've been selected and invited to submit formal, detailed proposals.

The foundation plans to make a decision and announce the winning site early next year.

Illinois, New York and Hawaii are all expected to compete.
