A Wonder Lake resident was arrested Wednesday for violating the Duty to Register provision of the Sex Offender Act.

Robert K. Curtis, 44, was arrested after the McHenry County Sheriff's Office received information that he was living in unincorporated Wonder Lake and failed to report his residence to authorities, which is required by the Illinois Sex Offender Registry Act, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

Investigators discovered Curtis had lived in the residence since December 2013, the release said.

Curtis was charged with a Class 3 felony and is being held at the McHenry County jail on a $15,000 bond.

In 1996, Curtis – a New Hampshire resident at time – was charged with 14 counts of felony sexual assault of a victim older than 13 but younger than 16, according to the New Hampshire Department of Safety.

He was also convicted of failing to register as a sex offender in 2006, and failing to inform of a change of name, alias, or address in 2013, according to public safety records.

Citizens can check the McHenry County Sheriff’s website at www.mchenrysheriff.org for registered sex offenders living in their area.

Curtis' next scheduled court date is Monday.
