McHENRY – City public works crews are scheduled to begin spring hydrant flushing on April 7, according to a news release.
The program is scheduled to be completed by April 18. If there is a delay, the flushing operation will be completed the week of April 21.
Hydrant flushing is needed to clean and maintain the water distribution system, the news release said.
If water becomes discolored during the process, residents should run their cold water tap for a few minutes until it clears. If this doesn't correct the problem, residents should try again at least an hour later. People shouldn't run hot water until the cold water is clear, the city said.
Discoloring is not hazardous for human consumption, but clothing can become stained, the news release said.
