McHenry library hosts movie showings, book clubs, family events

McHENRY – Puzzle clubs, resume workshops for students and a cabaret show are among the programs the McHenry Public Library has planned for next week.

Geek Dads & Moms – Science with Kids: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 7. Parents and kids 6 years and up will conduct experiments.

Student Resume Workshop: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 8. The Illinois Student Assistance Commission's resume workshop will assist high school freshmen through seniors in preparing a resume for an after-school or summer job. Parents are welcome to attend.

Puzzle Club: 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 9. This month's meeting of the Creator's Club will center on jigsaw puzzles. For all ages.

Astronomy Under the City Lights: 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 9. Weather permitting, the Lake County Astronomical Society will bring their telescopes for anyone interested to view the moon and the planets from the library's north parking lot. No registration required.

The Best Music of the '30s, '40s, '50s and '60s: 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, April 10. This themed cabaret show with Heather Braoudakis features the original songs from the 1930s through 1960s. For ages 18 and up.

Anime & Manga Club: 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10. For sixth-graders through 20-year-olds.

Credit Scores and Credit History: 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 12. Attendees will learn how to get a free credit report, what impacts their credit score and about credit repair and monitoring programs. For ages 18 and up.

Super Saturday Kid's Club: 2 to 2:50 p.m. for kindergartners through third-graders or 3 to 3:50 p.m. for fourth- through eighth-graders Saturday, April 12. Kids will turn recycling bin finds into art.

Free Movies @ Your Library: 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13. The movie "Dallas Buyers Club" starring Matthew McConaughey will be played. For ages 18 and up.

Contemporary Book Group: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, April 14. Attendees will discuss "Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America" by Erik Larson. Copies of the book are available for checkout at the front desk. For ages 18 and up. No registration required.
