Open house planned at historic farmhouse

Published: Wednesday, April 2, 2014 10:19 a.m. CST

RINGWOOD – Costumed re-enactors will showcase life in the 1850s during an open house at the historic farmhouse at Glacial Park.

The Powers-Walker House, located off Route 31 and Harts Road, will be open noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 6, one of the handful of times it is open each year.

The open house will focus on the two sons from the Powers family and their contributions to the Civil War; a special presentation is scheduled for 2 p.m.

“There are always changes to the house with the ongoing restoration,” said Gail Brown, the McHenry County Conservation District volunteer restoration coordinator. “This year’s winter project was to finish off the interior of the summer kitchen. Final touches are now complete on the woodwork and plaster repairs, and the entire room has been painted in the appropriate historic colors.”

The event is free, and visitor can drop in anytime.
