Prep roundup: Cary-Grove baseball beats Hampshire

The Cary-Grove baseball team scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning Thursday to pull away for a 10-2 Fox Valley Conference crossover win over visiting Hampshire.

Andrew Splitt got the win, pitching a complete game for the Trojans (3-3 overall, 1-0 FVC Valley).

Dean Christakes went 1 for 2 with an RBI, a double, three stolen bases and two runs. Matt Sutherland was 2 for 3 with three runs scored, and Willie Hartke added two RBIs. 

RJ Consigny was 1 for 1 with two RBIs for the Whip-Purs (2-2, 0-1 FVC Fox). 

Grayslake Central 7, Dundee-Crown 2: At Grayslake, Chase Bloch and Mark Waldron each had an RBI for the Chargers (2-4, 0-1) in an FVC crossover loss.

Marengo 4, Rockford Christian 3: At Rockford, Erik Kurczewski went 2 for 3 with a double for Marengo in the Big Northern Conference East Division win. Koty Kissack earned the win for the Indians (2-1, 1-1), and Ethan Walsweer picked up the four-out save.

GIRLS SOCCER

Cary-Grove 3, Lake Park 0: At the Lake Park Invitational in Roselle, Katie Conner scored a goal and had an assist as the Trojans (1-3-1) won. Carli Petersen also scored for C-G, which benefited from an own goal by Lake Park. Morgan Olsen made two saves. 

McHenry 1, Marian Central 0: At McHenry, the Warriors (1-1) got a first-half goal from Avalon Senn-Raemont in the nonconference win over the Hurricanes (0-2). Kelsie Kirchner and Kailey Lindholm assisted on the goal.

CL Central 1, Wauconda 0: At Crystal Lake, Tigers midfielder Riley Hudak scored in the 71st minute to break a scoreless tie in a nonconference win. Madison West had the assist. Goalkeeper Caitlyn Dayton made six saves for Central (2-1).

Marengo 8, North Boone 0: At Marengo, Kassidy Girmscheid paced the Indians (2-0, 2-0) with four goals in the dominant BNC East win. The forward scored two goals in each half and added two assists. The Indians didn’t allow a shot on goal.

Johnsburg 3, Grant 1: At Johnsburg, Delaney Pruitt played a role in all three Johnsburg goals in a nonconference win. She scored two goals in the second half and had the assist on Taylor Piggott’s second-half goal. Goalkeepers Amy Majercik and Amanda Cherwin split duties and teamed for seven saves for the Skyhawks (1-1).

BOYS LACROSSE

Huntley 14, Jacobs 7: At Huntley, Ryden Scarnato scored a game-high three goals for Huntley. Robert Koson, Chuck Addis and Drew Klopack each scored two for the Red Raiders in the win.

Thomas Wallace made 10 saves for Jacobs.
