Boys roundup: Skonieczny leads Huntley baseball over Hampshire

Mark Skonieczny went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and two doubles to lead the Huntley baseball team to a 7-0 victory over Hampshire in FVC crossover play Saturday in Huntley. 

The Red Raiders (4-2-1) used a four-run third inning to pull away for the win. Eric Luecht (2-0) got the win pitching six innings of three-hit ball and striking out eight. 

Tommy Kiriakopolous was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a stolen base for Huntley, and Brandon Altergott and Matt Sullivan each added an RBI.

Andrew Brown took the loss for the Whip-Purs (2-3), giving up six runs over five innings. R.J. Cosigny went 2 for 3 and Michael Kruse added a hit. 

Jacobs 6, Grayslake Central 3: At Jacobs, Ben Murray went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, a double and two runs in the Golden Eagles' (6-2) FVC crossover win. Tim Hubner got the win for Jacobs, going six innings and giving up three hits and only two unearned runs, while striking out three. Danny Vandewalker had two RBIs and Matt Kozlak and Grant Kale each added an RBI. 

Dundee-Crown 8, Woodstock North 0: At Carpentersville, Ahren Ludwig and Dan Denz combined to give up two hits and the shutout in the Chargers' (2-4) FVC crossover win. Both pitchers struck out six with Ludwig getting the the win. Tyler Lewan went 2 for 3 with two stolen bases, a run and an RBI for Dundee-Crown. Fabian Guterriez added two stolen bases and two runs scored. 

Jamie Huntley took the loss for the Thunder (1-3) after giving up four hits and five unearned runs over four innings. Jake Florito and Jordan McAleese each had a hit for Woodstock North. 

Richmond-Burton 7, Vernon Hills 5: At Richmond, Joe Dittmar doubled and drove in two runs and Drake Tellas was 2 for 3 with an RBI double as the Rockets (1-1) picked up their first win of the season in a nonconference game.

Mike Kaska threw two scoreless innings for the victory.

Alden-Hebron 12, Schaumburg Christian 5: At Hebron, Andrew Tieman had a double, a triple and two RBIs as the Giants (3-3) won their nonconference game.

James LeJuene had two hits, including a double, and an RBI, and Cody Nelson also had two hits. John Judson (1-1) threw two innings for the victory.

BOYS TENNIS

Johnsburg 7, Rockford Lutheran 0: At Johnsburg, Niko DeStephano won at the top singles spot to lead Johnbsurg in the sweep.

David Wilson and Luke Wolter each won their singles matches in straight sets as the Skyhawks improve to 1-1 on the season.

Rolling Meadows Quad: At Rolling Meadows, Prairie Ridge went 2-1 at the quad. The Wolves won, 6-1, over Rolling Meadows, before losing to Glenbrook South, 5-2. They closed the day with a 4-3 victory over Conant. No. 3 singles Aaditya Rawal was 3-0 on the day, including a 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 victory in the Rolling Meadows match. No. 1 doubles team Danny VanBosch and Garrett Locher went 2-1.

Hampshire Quad: At Hampshire, the Whip-Purs went 3-0, defeating Streamwood, 5-0; Round Lake, 4-1; and Aurora Central Catholic, 4-1. Elisha Hougland was 3-0 at No. 1 singles, only dropping one set. Jake Dahlberg and Chad West were 3-0 at No. 1 doubles. 

BOYS LACROSSE

Warren 13, Huntley 1: At Gurnee, James Huber scored the lone goal in the Red Raiders' loss. Warren scored 10 goals in the first two quarters of the game. Callaghan Quinn had six saves and Tyler Ross added two. 

Cary-Grove 13, Vernon Hills 2: At Vernon Hills, Ian Houston scored four goals and the Trojans defense held Vernon Hills to only five shots in the win. Charlie McDade scored two goals and Alec Johnson added two. Dylan Cost had three saves for Cary-Grove.
