To the Editor:
Your March 29 front-page article titled “Parks chief to repay $7,200” didn’t tell the entire story.
In the Associated Press article published online, it went into detail about how our own state representative, Jack Franks, was the person who uncovered the overpayments.
It was Rep. Franks who demanded the individual repay the state or be hit with tax-evasion charges for receiving a benefit to which he was not entitled.
Franks held the director of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources personally accountable for the overpayments and pushed him to fix the problem.
Franks is the kind of legislator we need more of – one who holds government officials responsible and looks out for taxpayers’ best interests.
