McHenry County College seeks literacy tutors

Published: Wednesday, April 9, 2014 1:40 p.m. CDT

CRYSTAL LAKE – Those interested in volunteering as tutors at McHenry County College will have two chances to attend free information sessions this month.

The college's adult education department is in need of volunteers to tutor adult students in reading, math or English as a second language. Anyone older than 18 with an interest in helping students is encouraged to attend informational sessions on April 26 or April 30.

The April 26 session is from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Building A, Room 370. The April 30 session is from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Building A, Room 226. The college is located at 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

Volunteer tutors do not have to speak a second language or have any teaching experience to tutor in the adult education literacy program. Volunteer tutors will receive free basic training that provides the information and skills needed to work with literacy students.

All teaching materials are supplied to volunteers. Scheduling flexibility will help meet many different schedules. Those interested can call Marie Day at 815-455-8542 for more information.
