To the Editor:

Volunteers are one of the nation’s most valuable resources.

Volunteer Center McHenry County wishes to salute the efforts of the millions that are dedicated to helping their community. These are the stars, the hope and inspiration that every day make a difference.

Last year, local nonprofit agencies surveyed by the Volunteer Center reported over 41,000 volunteers were engaged in 1,021,068 hours of service in McHenry County. These hours of service collectively have a value of $23 million.

Volunteers are changing lives. They are mentoring and tutoring children, helping older adults stay safe in their homes, providing health care, advocating for those needing help, looking after our environment and homeless animals, giving food to the hungry, giving rest to the homeless and much more.

Volunteers are essential to our community.

Member organizations with Volunteer Center McHenry County have an annual need of 58,000 volunteers. Forty-one percent of the nonprofits need more volunteer help.

Thank you for all you have done and are doing to support your community. To find out how you can volunteer, visit or call 815-344-4483.
