Bond set at $75,000 in Amtrak drug bust in Illinois

GALESBURG – Bond has been set at $75,000 for a man accused of bringing more than a pound of marijuana into Illinois on an Amtrak train with plans to sell it.

The Galesburg Register-Mail reported that Galesburg police arrested 28-year-old Kriss E. Barton on Thursday during a stop on a train journey that began in Arizona.

The suspect is from Rochester in central Illinois.

The charges against him include possession with intent to deliver marijuana.

Officers with a K-9 unit responded to Galesburg’s Amtrak station after receiving a tip.

Authorities say a search of his luggage turned up 589 grams of marijuana, along with more than 60 hydrocodone tablets and one small plastic bag of cocaine.

He remained in custody after Friday’s bond hearing. The judge appointed a public defender.
