Illinois man sentenced in pipe-bomb case

URBANA – A Bloomington man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after being convicted of putting a pipe bomb in a mailbox.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a news release Friday that 47-year-old Lloyd B. Lockwood was convicted in August 2013 of possession of an unregistered destructive device and being a felon in possession of a destructive device. He was sentenced Thursday in Urbana.

According to court records, Lockwood was arrested in September 2012 after putting the pipe bomb in the mailbox of a home in Decatur in March 2011.

The Justice Department says Lockwood was initially released on bond, but has been in federal custody since January 2013 after violating an order of protection filed against him.
