Prep roundup: Huntley girls track 3rd in own Jennifer Kearns Invitational

HUNTLEY – Huntley’s Macy Tramblay won the 100-meter high hurdles and took second in the 300 hurdles to help the Red Raiders to a third-place finish in their own Jennifer Kearns Invitational on Saturday.

Tina Driscoll took second in the 400 for the Raiders, who finished with 184 points. Bloom won the 10-team event with 191 1/2 points, and Harlem was second with 185.

McHenry (167), Crystal Lake South (160), Hampshire (155 1/2) and Marengo (107) were next. The meet had three flights in each event, with scores starting at 10 points for first places in Flight A, eight points in Flight B and six in Flight C.

Huntley also won the 4x400 relay in 4:07.2.

McHenry was led by Lauren Opatrny, who won the 1,600, and Rachel Irwin, who cleared 5 feet, 2 inches to win the high jump.

Crystal Lake South’s Taylor Schau, a transfer from Huntley, edged Tramblay in the 300 hurdles with a 47.8. Tramblay finished in 48.3, and Hampshire’s Elizabeth Pagan was third in 49.3.

Marengo’s Caitlyn Allen won the 3,200 and Allie Sprague took second in the 1,600 and third in the 800.

Mendota Don Gooden Invitational: Harvard's Javaneeka Jacobs, Morgan Logan, Jordan Peterson and Sophie Stricker won the 4x800 relay in 10:40.38 as the Hornets finished ninth in the 14-team meet.

Peterson was third in the 1,600, Daphne Austin was fourth in the 3,200 and Stricker was fifth in the 800.

Riverside-Brookfield Invitational: At Brookfield, Woodstock had 63 points to win the meet, and Jacobs (59) finished second. Briana Verbeeck won the 100 meters (13.09). Jacobs' Lauren Van Vlierbergen (5:14.82) won the 1,600, and Woodstock's Maura Beattie won the 3,200 with a time of 11:03.28.


Mendota Don Gooden Invitational: Zach Martin took second in the triple jump, third in the long jump and ran a leg of the Hornets' third-place 4x100 relay as the Hornets were sixth in the 14-team meet.

Martin ran with Cameron Iftner, Christian Kramer and Coty Reilly in the 4x200. He jumped 40-4 1/2 to take second in the triple jump and 19-3 for third in the long jump.

Kramer was third in the 400 (54.38) and fourth in the 100 (11.93). David Anaya was third in the 800 and Jorge Pichardo was fourth in the 3,200.


Huntley 7, Grayslake Central 0: At Grayslake, Eric Luecht pitched six shutout innings for Huntley in a Fox Valley Conference crossover win against Grayslake Central. Luecht walked two and struck out seven.

Matt Sullivan added a double, triple and three runs for Huntley (8-2-1, 3-0 FVC Valley). The Rams fell to 8-4, 3-2 in the FVC Fox.

Grayslake North 2, McHenry 1 (8 inn.): At Grayslake, Cody Freund pitched seven innings, allowing one run, which was unearned, and struck out four for McHenry (8-2, 3-1 FVC Valley). Freund also drove in the only run for the Warriors in the FVC crossover loss. Grayslake North is 7-6, 1-2 in the FVC Fox.

Pretzel City Classic: At Freeport, Justin Vogel went 4 for 4 with two doubles and four RBIs for Marengo (3-6) in an 18-2 victory over Dakota. Mike Villarreal and Noah Klick each went 3 for 3 for the Indians. Also at Freeport, the Indians lost to Deerfield, 7-2.

Beloit Turner 10, Alden-Hebron 2: At Beloit, Marshal Glenn had an RBI double for the Giants (4-6) in their nonconference loss. Alec O'Halleran took the loss for A-H.


Hononegah 5-6, Huntley 1-7: At Rockton, Huntley split a doubleheader. In Game 1, Kateri Conklin took the loss for Huntley, five runs (three earned), and struck out five. Conklin also added two hits for the Red Raiders. In Game 2, Huntley (4-4) responded with a victory in nine innings. Winning pitcher Megan Baczewski went all nine innings and had the game-winning hit.

Benet Academy 9, Marengo 1: At Lisle, Gabbi Markson homered in the top of the seventh inning for the Indians only run in a nonconference loss.


Huntley 2, Oak Park 0: Huntley beat Oak Park in the first game of the Pepsico Showdown at Olympic Park in Schaumburg. Taryn Jakubowski scored a goal in each half for the Red Raiders (8-2). Senior goalkeeper Jessica Galason made four saves, recording her eighth shutout of the season. 

Lisle 2, Johnsburg 1: At Lisle, Delaney Pruitt scored for the Skyhawks (2-4) in their nonconference loss.

Round Lake 3, Woodstock North 2: At Round Lake, Daniela Miranda had a goal and an assist for Woodstock North, which scored both of its goals in the second half of a nonconference loss. The Thunder (0-6) also got a goal from Tabitha Jakic. Goalkeeper Shanen Laabs made 12 saves for North.

Dundee-Crown 2, Rolling Meadows 2: At Lake Park, the Chargers fought back from trailing 1-0 at half to tie in a Lake Park Tournament game. The Chargers got goals from Ashley Raby and an own goal by rolling Meadows with eight minutes remaining.


Hampshire Invitational: At Hampshire, Elisha Hougland and Jacob Dalhberg finished in first place of No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Hampshire took second place with 18 team points, and Marengo took fifth with nine points. IMSA won with 21 points.


Maine East Quadrangular: At Park Ridge, McHenry (3-9), lost Conant, 4-3, and to Zion-Benton and Maine East, 7-0. 


Warren 8, Cary-Grove 2: At Gurnee, Ian Houston and Eric Lindberg scored for the Trojans in the loss.
