Harvard is set to hire two coaches to replace retiring Hall of Fame football and wrestling coach Tim Haak at its District 50 school board meeting Wednesday night.
The district's board meeting agenda reads that superintendent Lauri Tobias will recommend the board hires Michael Sean Saylor as football coach and Mark Payne as wrestling coach.
Saylor was most recently the defensive coordinator at East Peoria and was a head coach at Limestone previously. Payne was a head wrestling coach at Manassas Park (Va.) and St. Clair (Mo.) before that.
Payne would also be a credit recovery teacher at Harvard Academy while Saylor, known as Sean, would be a physical education/driver education teacher.
Haak is retiring as physical education teacher and coach. He was head football coach for 29 years and wrestling coach for 26 years. He was voted into the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association and Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Halls of Fame.
There was no mention of any discussion about Harvard's possible ties to a proposed new athletic conference on the agenda. But Marengo superintendent Dan Bertrand said at Marengo's Monday night meeting that Harvard would be discussing the matter.
