Inside Boys Tennis: PR doubles team players of week

Athletes of the Week

Matt Altman

Prairie Ridge, sr.

Garrett Locher

Prairie Ridge, so.

Altman and Locher went 3-0 at the Downers Grove North Invitational on Saturday to help lead the Wolves to a second place finish. At No. 2 doubles, they beat Batavia and the host Trojans and bumped up to No. 1 doubles to beat Larkin. Prairie Ridge coach Jim Benson said Altman and Locher played awesome at Downers Grove North and are competitive against his No. 1 team of Matt Cox and Danny VanBosch. That competitive symmetry makes for challenging practices and a solid doubles lineup.

FVC Update: With the season three weeks old, the division races are starting to heat up in the Fox Valley Conference.

In the Valley Division, both Jacobs (3-0) and Prairie Ridge (2-0) are undefeated. The Golden Eagles have wins against Crystal Lake South (6-1), McHenry (6-1) and Cary-Grove (5-2). The Wolves blanked Dundee-Crown and Huntley.

The Valley Division race is not even close to decided but the April 29 dual between Jacobs and Prairie Ridge could be a deciding factor. With the Golden Eagles' one-two punch at singles with Kailash Panchapakesan and Kendrick Chong and the Wolves' depth at doubles, it looks to be competitive.

Division standings are determined by total individual wins in duals. How many individual losses the top teams have in their dual meets is like to be a big factor in the final standings.

In the Fox Division, Crystal Lake Central (2-0), Grayslake North (3-0) and Grayslake Central (3-0) are all undefeated in division play. Hampshire will not play its first Fox Division match until Thursday at Woodstock North.

Solid at 2: Also at Downers Grove, sophomore Hayden Dzurisin went, 3-0, for the Wolves. He beat Downers Grove South and Batavia at No. 2 singles and Larkin at No. 1
