To the Editor:
I would like to respond to the editorial (“More scrutiny for townships,” April 8) that called for more scrutiny of townships and ultimately their consolidation.
I’d like to point out that the base of both our arguments is the same: The services provided by townships are essential to residents throughout Illinois. Where our arguments drift apart is that based on our studies, we believe townships provide these services at a lower cost and higher efficiency than larger units of government.
While we may never agree on this specific issue, let’s at least agree that townships are performing their core services responsibly and effectively. Those serving the townships across the state are men and women who have dedicated their lives to public service and are doing so honorably.
