Crystal Lake Police to host drug disposal event

CRYSTAL LAKE – The Crystal Lake Police Department will host a prescription drug disposal event Saturday at its headquarters.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., residents can bring any potentially dangerous, unwanted, unused and expired prescription drugs to the Crystal Lake Police Department on 100 W. Woodstock St. where they will be safely disposed. No liquid drugs or needles will be accepted.

The event, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Agency, allows residents to dispose of the drugs at a drive-thru in an anonymous fashion.

Last April, Americans turned in 742,000 pounds of pills at more than 5,800 sites throughout the country. The disposal initiative was started to curb drug abuse and prevent family members and friends who may struggle with drug addiction from stealing unused drugs. It also helps prevent unsafe disposal methods such as flushing pills down the toilet or throwing them in the garbage.

For more information, contact Crystal Lake Police at 815-356-3793.
