Girls Prep Roundup: Dionne leads Marengo past Burlington Central

At Marengo, Mariah Dionne did a little bit of everything for the Indians in a 4-2 Big Northern Conference East Division softball win over Burlington Central on Monday.

Dionne pitched a complete game, allowing four hits and striking out eight. She, along with teammates Abby Kissack and Taylor Carlson, also homered for Marengo (10-6 overall, 4-0 BNC East).

Cary-Grove 8, CL South 6: At. Crystal Lake, the Trojans scored three runs in the top of the seventh to hand Crystal Lake South the Fox Valley Conferece Valley Division loss. Jamie Deering hit a double and drove in two runs for C-G (7-5, 2-1). Jenica Terry homered for the Gators (5-5, 0-2) in the loss.

McHenry 11, Dundee-Crown 0 (5 inn.): At Carpentersville, McHenry (5-5, 2-1) scored nine runs in the second inning to rout Dundee-Crown (0-4, 0-2) in the FVC Valley game. Kristin Koepke struck out 11, and Carly Mattson homered for the Warriors in the win.

Grayslake Central 13, Woodstock North 3 (5 Inn): At Grayslake, Woodstock North (1-7, 0-2 FVC Fox) allowed runs in every inning in the conference loss. Laura Nicks had two hits for the Thunder.

Hampshire 20, Johnsburg 3 (6 Inn): At Johnsburg, Becca Hurst hit two doubles and drove in four runs for Hampshire (10-6, 3-0 FVC Fox) in the conference win. Haley Widmayer got the win, striking out eight batters. Sara Finn also hit two doubles and drove in three for the Whip-Purs. Carly Wilson drove in two runs for Johnsburg (1-10, 1-1).

Prairie Ridge 3, Jacobs 1: At Algonquin, the Wolves (8-4, 3-0) scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to win in FVC Valley play. Maddie Drain was 2 for 3 with a home run and Sammy Hempen added an RBI. Hailey Baker (6-5) got the win pitching seven innings just giving up one run and five hits. 

Katie Borchert had an RBI and Courtney Cotugno added two hits. 

SOCCER

Marengo 6, Harvard 0: At Marengo, Logan Brettschneider and Jessica Heinberg scored two goals each for Marengo (5-3, 4-1) in the BNC East win. Kassidy Girmschied added a goal and two assists for the Indians.

Elgin 2, Hampshire 1: At Hampshire, Lexie Maze scored the Whip-Purs' only goal in a nonconference loss. Kaila Kienzler and Laurie Kochanski combined for 13 saves for Hampshire (2-6).

TRACK AND FIELD

Dundee-Crown Triangular: At Carpentersville, the Chargers won their home meet with 88 points, just beating out Woodstock (86) and Larkin (7). Dundee-Crown's Kayla Lawrence won the 400-meter run (1:09.23) and the long jump (15-6). Woodstock got a first place finish from their 4x100 and 4x200 relays.

Harvard Meet: At Harvard, Marengo (126 points) won the meet over Harvard (90), Rockford Christian (37) and North Boone (1). Sophie Stricker won the 100 meter dash (13.3) for the Hornets. Harvard's Nicole Melson won both Shot Put (31-0 1/4) and discus (97-2). Allie Sprague won the 3,200 for Marengo (12:21.3).
