Girls prep roundup: Woodstock soccer beats Johnsburg

The Woodstock girls soccer team scored with three seconds left in regulation to tie Johnsburg and then won on a golden goal in overtime 2-1 in Fox Valley Conference Fox Division play at Woodstock.

Kirsten Schreiner scored on a free kick from 19 yards out with just three seconds left in the game to tie the game at 1 for the Blue Streaks (8-3, 1-0 FVC Fox). 

"[Schreiner and the team] felt that sense of urgency. She set it up and got the shot off on three (seconds)," Woodstock coach Michael Golda said. "It was an under pressure shot and we were very lucky to get that shot." 

Brecken Overly ended the game in the first overtime with her second goal of the season. Anna Lopatin had an assist on the Overly goal and Marissa Krueger made three saves for Woodstock.

Allie Layton scored a goal for Johnsburg and Taylor Piggot added an assist. Amanda Cherwin made five saves for Skyhawks (4-8, 1-1 FVC Fox). 

Burlington Central 1, Richmond-Burton 0: At Burlington, the Rockets (8-3, 5-2 BNC East) surrendered a second-half goal in the BNC East Division loss. Hannah Koenig made three saves in the loss. 

Hampshire 3, Woodstock North 2: At Woodstock, the Whip-Purs (3-6, 1-0 FVC Fox) won 3-1 in penalties to win the FVC Fox Division game. Lexie Maze scored two goals and McCall Rafferty added an assist. Kaila Kienzler made ten saves for Hampshire.

Crystal Cruz and Tabitha Jakic each had a second half goal to tie the game at two. Shanen Laabs made 21 saves for the Thunder (0-9, 0-1 FVC Fox). 

Crystal Lake Central 1, Grayslake North 0: At Grayslake, Katie Beck scored with less than two minutes left to lead the Tigers (6-3, 1-0 FVC Fox) to victory. Caitlyn Dayton made nine saves and Sarah Benhart added an assist. 

Crystal Lake South 3, Jacobs 0: At Algonquin, Alex Romano had a goal and an assist as the Gators (6-2-1, 1-0 FVC Valley) won in FVC Valley play. Alexandra Siavelis and Kimmy Sulikowski each added a goal. 

Dundee-Crown 2, Grayslake Central 2: At Grayslake, the Chargers (2-3-3) got first-half goals from Shannon Feld and Payton De Luga in the FVC crossover tie. Krystal Meraz added an assist and Isabel Miranda made four saves. 

Marian Central 3, Guerin Prep 0: At River Grove, Samantha Benigni had a goal and an assist to lead the Hurricanes to victory. Jacqueline Guilbeault and Julia Bennett each added a goal. Kersten Green made three saves for the shutout. 

SOFTBALL

McHenry 11, Huntley 7: At Huntley, the Warriors hit five home runs in the game and three in an eight-run second inning to win in FVC Valley Division play. Rachel Ford hit a home run and had three RBIs and Alex Martens was 2 for 4 with a triple and a home run. Kristin Koepke got the win pitching and hit a home run for McHenry.

Megan Baczewski was 2 fro 3 with a double and a home run for the Red Raiders (6-7, 1-2 FVC Valley). Taylor Stone added a double and two RBIs. 

Grayslake Central 11, Woodstock 2: At Grayslake, the Blue Streaks lost in FVC Fox Division play. Sam Baker and Olivia Croner were both 2 for 3 and Sarah Kuespert added an RBI. 

Crystal Lake Central 7, Woodstock North 0: Megan Mahaffy pitched a complete-game shutout to lead the Tigers (6-4, 2-1) in the FVC Fox Division win. Mahaffy gave up just one hit while striking out 12. She also went 2 for 3 at the plate with a home run and five RBIs. Amy Walsh added a 3 for 3 day with a triple and two RBIs. 

Sierra Mieners was 1 for 3 with a double for the Thunder. 

Jacobs 16, Dundee-Crown 0: At Algonquin, the Golden Eagles scored 10 runs in the fourth inning to pull away in FVC Valley play. Sarah Murray was 3 for 4 with a home run, three runs and two RBIs. Kelsey Cummings had three RBIs and Emily Borg added a home run and two RBIs.

Megan Emerson and Casey Weeks each had a hit for the Chargers. 

St. Francis 7, Marian Central 0: At Wheaton, Ryan Klinger doubled in a Suburban Christian Conference loss for the Hurricanes (8-7, 4-2 SCC). 

Alden-Hebron 11, Westminster 9: At Hebron, Hannah Behrens doubled and drove in two runs for the Giants in a Northeastern Athletic Conference win. Also for A-H (4-8, 2-1 NAC), Maddie Brown tripled and scored three runs.

GIRLS TRACK

Richmond-Burton Triangular: Miranda Halverson won the 100 meters (13.09) and 200 (27.70) for the Rockets which topped Marian Central and Shoreland Lutheran with 110 points. 

Abigail Jones won the 1,600 (5:57.01) and 3,200 (12:16.00) for the Hurricanes which had 69 points.
