McHENRY – An open house this Saturday will allow dog owners to try out the nine-month old city dog park.
The grand opening ceremony and open house will take place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the McBark Park, located on state right-of-way property north of Kohl's, 2450 N. Richmond Road.
The free event will include local pet vendor tables, giveaways, raffles and a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m.
The park includes a small-dog area, a large-dog exercise area, a shelter and tables, water fountain for pets and their owners at the park entrance and parking. The park is wheelchair accessible.
Attendees can bring their dogs, but they must have either a current McBark Park membership pass or copies proving the dogs are up to date on their rabies and distemper vaccinations.
Prorated membership passes, which run through the end of August, can be purchased at the McHenry Municipal Center, 333 S. Green St., for $37.50 for residents and $62.50 for non-residents.
A new sponsorship by Gary Lang Subaru will allow the city to lower membership rates for next season, which starts in September, and possibly to make capital improvements, including extending the water line and adding another shade structure, Deputy City Administrator Bill Hobson said.
The city has also added other advertising space to the park to help cover costs.
