Prep Roundup: McHenry baseball beats Carmel

At McHenry, Mike Borst had three hits and Dylan Weston had a double and drove in a run for the Warriors (12-3) in the nonconference win over Carmel, 4-2. McHenry scored two runs in the fourth to tie the game at 2, and then added one in both the fifth and sixth to beat a tough Carmel team. 

Cary-Grove 22, Woodstock North 6 (5 Inn): At Woodstock, Cary-Grove scored eight first-inning runs and never looked back as it routed the Thunder in this nonconference matchup. Willie Hartke had a double and drove in four runs for the Trojans (9-8).

Burlington Central 2, Jacobs 1: At Algonquin, Ben Murray had three hits for the Golden Eagles (13-6) in the nonconference home loss.

Alden-Hebron 9, North Shore 7: At Winnetka, the Giants scored two runs in the seventh inning to out duel North Shore. Andrew Tiemann was 3 for 4 with a double and a home run for Alden-Hebron (7-7). Marshal Glenn and James LeJune also added doubles for the Giants.

Hampshire 3, Larkin 1: At Elgin, Hampshire (5-9) got runs batted in from Michael Merchut and Brandon Bowen in the nonconference win. Kyle Rutkowski pitched a complete game, allowing four hits and no earned runs.

Marengo 6, North Boone 1: At Poplar Grove, Marengo used five first inning runs to power past North Boone in the conference matchup. Koty Kissack got the win pitching for Marengo (5-6, 2-3 BNC East), striking out eight over seven innings. Erik Karczewski added a home run for the Indians as well.

Girls Soccer

Marengo 5, North Boone 0: At Poplar Grove, Kassidy Girmscheid had a hat trick for the Indians in the conference win. Marengo (6-3, 5-1 BNC East) also got a goal and two assists from Amanda Jaeger.

Lakes Invite: At Lake Villa, Richmond-Burton fell to Vernon Hills, 4-2, as part of the Lakes Invite. Anna Blaney had a goal and an assist for the Rockets (8-4) and Hannah Koenig made 12 saves in the loss. Woodstock North (0-10) lost to the host Lakes team, 7-0.


Grayslake Central 12, Johnsburg 2: At Johnsburg, the Skyhawks fell to Grayslake Central in the FVC Fox Division game. Kendall Huemann took the loss for Johnsburg (1-11, 1-3 FVC Fox). Huemann also added a hit and an RBI for Johnsburg in the loss.

Hampshire 2, Grayslake North 1: At Hampshire, Haley Widmayer starred for the Whip-Purs, throwing a complete game, striking out nine and allowing no earned runs in the conference win for Hampshire (11-7, 4-0 FVC Fox). 

Crystal Lake South 20, Dundee-Crown 5 (5 Inn): At Carpentersville, the Gators got the conference win over D-C in the rout. Jessie Golf and McKenna Hess added two doubles apiece in the win for Crysal Lake South (6-6, 1-3 FVC Valley)

Crystal Lake Central 9, Woodstock 0: At Crystal Lake, Shannon Ellman threw a complete game shutout for the Tigers (7-4, 3-1 FVC Fox). Megan Mahaffy had a double and a home run for Crystal Lake Central in the conference win. Woodstock's Jessie Karafa took the loss pitching for the Blue Streaks.

McHenry 9, Kenosha Bradford 4: At McHenry, the Warriors scored four runs in the third and fifth inning on their way to a nonconference win. Hannah Crowley and Kristin Koepke had two hits apiece for McHenry (7-5).

Marengo 11, Rockford Christian 0 (5 Inn): At Marengo, the Indians scored all 11 runs in the first inning on their way t the conference victory over Rockford Christian. Mariah Dionne threw a five-inning no-hitter, striking out 14 of the 16 batters she faced. Dionne was also 2 for 2 at the plate, driving in a run as well.

Boys Tennis

Lakes 4, Marian Central 3: At Lake Villa, Charles Shin won his No. 1 singles match for the Hurricanes. Marian Central's combination of Joe Herba and Owen Rost also won their No. 1 doubles match for the Hurricanes in the team loss.

Huntley 4, Grayslake Central 3: At Grayslake, Huntley got a No. 3 singles win from Brendan Hagn, who won both games 7-5. Red Raiders' doubles pair Jake Grabner and Matt Frederick also got a win (6-2, 0-6, 6-4) for Huntley (6-3).

Prairie Ridge 6, Hampshire 1: At Crystal Lake, the Wolves got a No. 2 singles win from Hayden Dzurisin and No. 3 singles win from Aaditya Rawal. Hampshire's only win came from No. 1 singles in Elisha Hougland.
