Tryon absent from votes

To the Editor:

The last two weeks before the spring recess are when the bulk of the bills before the Illinois House of Representatives are considered.

Literally hundreds of bills are voted on in each of those two weeks.

While checking on how our local legislators voted on several measures, I discovered that Mike Tryon failed to vote on many bills. I called the clerk of the House of Representatives to see whether there was an error in the vote recording and was told that Mr. Tryon was absent on those session days. I then called his legislative office and discovered that Mr. Tryon took a vacation to Mexico during this critical period.

Instead of doing the job he was elected to do, a job for which he receives more than $80,000 of taxpayer money per year, Mr. Tryon was derelict in his duties. He was not sick, nor was he caring for a loved one. He simply took off. The General Assembly went on a two-week recess immediately after Tryon’s vacation. He could have taken his vacation when the General Assembly recessed, but he purposefully chose to shun his responsibilities.

As a taxpayer and voter, I am deeply disappointed in Rep. Tryon’s actions. Since he apparently does not want to do his job, someone else should take it from him.
