Boys Roundup: McHenry edges Dundee-Crown in 9 innings again

For the second straight day, a Fox Valley Conference Valley Division baseball game between McHenry and Dundee-Crown was decided in nine innings. The Warriors (14-3 overall, 7-1 FVC Valley) again came out on top Saturday, this time, 3-2, in nine innings in Carpentersville.

On Friday, McHenry won, 9-8.

McHenry's Mike Borst singled in the ninth inning Saturday, stole second and scored the winning run on a throwing error after Robert Nagel put the ball in play. Borst was 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and the winning run. Nick Lahrman added an RBI for McHenry. 

Cody Freund got the win, pitching eight innings, giving up two unearned runs and four hits while striking out nine. He outdueled Ahern Ludwig, who pitched into the ninth and gave up one earned run while stirking out 13.

Brett Johnson was 2 for 4 for the Chargers (10-9, 7-2) with two doubles and two RBIs. Vince Damato added two hits. 

Hampshire 3, Woodstock 1: At Hampshire, Trey Schramm threw a no-hitter to lead the Whip-Purs (6-11, 2-6) to the FVC Fox Division victory. Schramm struck out 15 and gave up one unearned run. He also was 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI. 

Austin Butts had the only RBI for the Blue Streaks (4-8, 2-7). 

Huntley 8, Prairie Ridge 2 (10 inn.): At Crystal Lake, the Red Raiders (13-4-1, 7-2) scored six runs in the top of the 10th inning to break a 2-2 tie and earn the FVC Valley win. Troy Cantu and Bobby Hecker each had an RBI, and Matt Blain had two hits and two runs scored. 

Jack Lasswell was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Jack Myers added two hits for the Wolves (9-12, 4-5). 

Grayslake Central 12, CL Central 9: At Crystal Lake, the Tigers (3-14, 2-8) gave up three runs in the top of the eighth inning in the FVC Fox loss. Robert Aunan was 3 for 5 with an RBI, and Matt Tegtmeier added two hits. 

Harvard 6, Winnebago 1: At Harvard, the Hornets (5-7) won in Big Northern Conference crossover play. Johnny Peterson was 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored, and Logan Streit added two hits, including a triple. Reiss Bielski pitched seven innings, allowingone run and striking out eight for the win. 

Marian Central 3, Chicago Christian 1: At Woodstock, the Hurricanes won in Suburban Christian Conference crossover play. Brad Parchutz (1-2) pitched seven innings giving up just four hits and an unearned run for Marian (5-8, 4-6 SCC Blue). Sal Rodriguez was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and Nick Albanese added an RBI. 

TENNIS

Mundelein Inviational: At Mundelein, Cary-Grove took home first place. Kevin Maas won all four of his matches at No. 1 singles, and Evan Jensen won all of his matches at No. 2 singles. Eric Shershen and Chris Cecchin took first place at No. 3 doubles. 

TRACK AND FIELD

Kaneland Peterson Prep Invitational: At Maple Park, Milik Dunner finished second in the 100 meters (11.36 seconds) and Austin White finished second in the 200 (22.94) to lead Dundee-Crown to a seventh-place finish. The Chargers finished with 42 points. Dunner and White were also a part of the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams that finished second for D-C.
