Girls Roundup: Huntley softball team wins twice

The Huntley softball team went 2-0 Saturday with wins against Libertyville and Wauconda in Libertyville.

The Red Raiders (11-7) beat Libertyville, 9-7, in the first game. Angela Tribuzio hit a home run and had three RBIs, and Megan Larson added a home run and two RBIs.

In Game 2, Larson and Tribuzio homered again en route to a 10-1 victory over Wauconda. Kateri Conklin (2-2), who picked up the save in Game 1, started Game 2 and pitched seven innings, giving up one run and four hits while striking out 10.

Michelle Caputi added a double and three RBIs for Huntley in Game 2.

Prairie Ridge 8-5, Sycamore 4-3: At Sycamore, the Wolves (11-5) swept both games of a nonconference doubleheader. In Game 1, Claire Bowman went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, and Kate Didier was 3 for 3 with two RBIs. Prairie Ridge scored two runs in the top of the seventh to win Game 2. Erin Wing drove in the two winning runs and was 2 for 4 on the day. Emily Doomis was 5 for 7 between the two games.

Richmond-Burton 10, Woodstock North 0: At Richmond, the Rockets (10-4) won in nonconference play.

Kristin Brenner was 2 for 3 for the Thunder. 

Woodstock Tournament

Cary-Grove 7, Orangeville 0: At Woodstock, the Trojans won their opening-round game behind Caitlyn Adams' one-hit shutout. Adam helped herself at the plate with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Caroline Zasadil added an RBI, and Amy Clemment had two hits. 

Conant 7, Cary-Grove 5 (8 inn.): At Woodstock, the Trojans (10-7) lost in the semifinals. C-G scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, but Conant scored three in the top of the eighth to get the win. Lisa Semro was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored and Jamie Deering added two hits.

Conant 5, CL Central 2: At Woodstock, the Tigers lost their opening game of the tourney. Megan Mahaffy was 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI, and Shannon Ellman added an RBI. Mahaffy took the loss giving up three earned runs and striking out seven. 

Orangeville 10, CL Central 0: At Woodstock, the Tigers were shut out in their second game of the tournament. Orangeville's Tori Clark held Central to three hits. Rachel Kautz was 1 for 2 for Central. 

CL Central 6, Harvard 1: At Woodstock, the Tigers (9-6) won the seventh-place game. Mahaffy pitched seven innings, giving up one run, two hits and striking out 13. Shannon Ellman was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs and Maddie Helm added a triple and a run scored.

Kaylee Bischke was 1 for 3 with an RBI for Harvard. 


Prairie Ridge Invitational: At Crystal Lake, Crystal Lake South (9-2-2) beat eventual champion Prairie Ridge, 3-0, in its first match of the day. Kimmy Sulikowski had a goal and an assist and Elizabeth Massat added a goal. Jaclyn Przybylski made six saves. South also beat Proviso East, 12-0, and had 12 different players score. 

Lakes Invitational: At Lake Villa, Richmond-Burton (11-4) won both of its matches. In the third-place match against Grayslake North, a 1-0 R-B win, the score was tied, 0-0, at the end of regulation and went to penalty kicks, where the Rockets won, 5-4. Hannah Koenig made 12 saves in the match. 

R-B beat Antioch, 4-1, to advance to third-place match. Gabi Ross scored two goals and Anna Blaney and Miki Winkler each added a goal.

Also at the invitational, Woodstock North lost, 7-0, to Grayslake North before losing to Zion-Benton, 3-0. Monica Czerwiec and Ariella Simandl were named all-tournament players and Kristin Lemke made 32 saves between the two games for North (0-13). 

Indian Creek 2, Hampshire 1: At the DeKalb Tournament, the Whip-Purs (3-7) lost, 2-1, on penalty kicks in their last match of the tournament. Miah Thompson scored in the first half for Hampshire, and Kaila Kienzler made 11 saves. Lexi Maze and Kalia Higa were both named to the all-tourney team. 

Prospect Tournament: At Mount Prospect, McHenry went 3-2 at the tourney, with both losses coming against Prospect. On Saturday, the Warriors (9-4) beat Trinity, 3-0, University High, 3-1, and Wauwatosa, 1-0, before losing to Prospect, 5-0. Avalon Senn-Raemont scored five goals on the day. Alexis Morales and Lexi Vargas each had a goal and an assist. 


Harlem Invitational: At Machesney Park, Hampshire won the meet with a team score of 117.5, narrowly edging Harlem, which finished with 115. Trish Dumoulin won the triple jump at 32 feet, 8 1/2 inches and was also a member of the 4x800-meter relay team that finished first. Nikki Dumoulin and Elizabeth Evans were on both winning relays for Hampshire – the 4x800 and the 4x400.
