DANVILLE — A 3-year-old girl who died during a weekend house fire in eastern Illinois has been identified.

Vermilion County Coroner Peggy Johnson said Monday that Mazzie Breanne Cox died of smoke inhalation and burns she received during Saturday night's fire in Danville. Authorities say she was unable to escape the smoke and flames.

Fire officials say the girl's mother and another 3-year-old were able to crawl out of a second-story window and were treated for injuries. Several other people also escaped.

Danville Public safety Director Larry Thomason says the fire was reported around 11:30 p.m. It took crews about 45 minutes to extinguish the flames.

The fire remains under investigation.
